Drug-Free Workplace
Substance Abuse Council

Substance Abuse Affects the Bottom Line.

The use of drugs in the workplace is estimated to cost over $100 billion a year. Drug use impacts the workplace by increasing absenteeism, increasing accidents, increasing workers' compensation claims, and causes a variety of other costly problems. A drug-free workplace program not only increases a business's chance of operating at its potential, it also offers a safer and healthier environment to its employees.

Statistics estimate that approximately 70 percent or 10 million ilicit drug users are employed, making the workplace an excellent place to intervene, provide education andd promote treatment.

Benefits reported by employers after implementing a Drug-Free Workplace program:

  • Reduced absenteeism

  • Reduced injuries
  • Reduced turnover
  • Reduced thefts
  • Increased productivity
  • Fewer consumer complaints
  • Improved work habits
  • Improved health status
  • Improved co-worker relationships
